Former Leeds United man set for huge offers after World Cup masterclass

Netherlands players celebrate Credit: Imago

Leeds United stars are having a contrasting World Cup as the tournament continues to throw up surprise results and performances.

Gabriel Gudmundsson earned some praise despite Sweden’s 5-1 hammering at the hands of the Netherlands on Sunday, while Ao Tanaka played the full 90 minutes in Japan’s emphatic 4-0 win over Tunisia.

Noah Okafor is experiencing a frustrating time with the Switzerland squad in the World Cup. He is yet to play a minute of football in the tournament.

However, a former Leeds star is likely to move for a huge transfer fee in the summer after what he has done in the opening group games of the World Cup.

Crysencio Summerville scores again

The Netherlands have four points from their opening two group games, and Crysencio Summerville scored in both games.

He netted in the 2-2 draw against Japan in the opening game, while the former Leeds star was at it again when he rifled the ball into the right-hand bottom corner from outside the box against Sweden.

He is expected to leave West Ham this summer following their relegation. However, there is now likely to be fierce competition for his signature.

Manchester United are interested in the West Ham winger and are keen to secure a deal to take him to Old Trafford in the ongoing transfer window.

Several other clubs are interested in the Dutchman, and his World Cup performances have only enhanced his reputation this summer.

Despite relegation, West Ham are in a good position to get a premium fee for Summerville this summer. They are hoping to sell him for a deal worth £50m.

Summerville is open to a move to Manchester United and has given his green light to his agents to open talks with the Old Trafford outfit.

The possibility of a return to Leeds is dead in the water

There were rumours earlier this summer that Leeds were considering taking Summerville back to Elland Road following West Ham’s relegation.

The Dutchman has admirers at Elland Road, and the club were exploring the idea. But that possibility is likely dead in the water.

West Ham’s £50m valuation minimised any possibility of Summerville returning to Leeds, and his World Cup performance is the last nail in the coffin.

With clubs such as Manchester United offering him big money and Champions League football, the winger would not be turning his head towards Leeds again.

Leeds have also moved on from that possibility and are working on deals to sign Harry Wilson and Julian Brandt on free transfers.
