The World Cup is in full swing, but that has not stopped the media from making headlines involving Leeds United. The club currently has active players and former coaches at the tournament.
Jesse Marsch, who had a spell at Elland Road in 2022/23 is now head coach of Canada.
Leeds favourite Marcelo Bielsa is also in charge of Uruguay at the tournament. The Whites have four players representing the club: Noah Okafor, Ao Tanaka, Brenden Aaronson and Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Just these past few days Weston McKennie, who was on loan at Leeds a few years ago, also made the headlines.
The club have also been linked with a few players including Zion Suzuki and Ousmane Diomande.
Jamie O’Hara fumes as pundit claims Leeds United star is better than Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo has had an unfortunate start to the 2026 World Cup, as Portugal only managed to draw with DR Congo in their opener.
The forward missed a few chances as his side failed to find the back of the net.
He has not scored a goal at the World Cup since Portugal’s first game at the 2022 edition.
On talkSPORT, Jamie O’Hara and Rory Jennings got into it when Jennings made a surprising claim that Leeds United star Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a better option than Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rory said: ”I’d have Danny Welbeck ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo if Cristiano Ronaldo is English. He doesn’t get in any any team. I’m being everybody’s looking at me like I’m saying something really controversial. This is basic.”
”Calvin Lewin is a better footballer today than Cristiano Ronaldo.”
The back and forth continued later in the segment.
Jamie O’Hara said: ”You’re telling me that he that Ronaldo is at leads, he wouldn’t go and score goals?”
Rory replied: ”No, I don’t think he would. I don’t think he could play Premier League football. The intensity of the Premier League, he’d beat him alive.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was a masterstroke signing by the 49ers
When the summer window closed last year, Leeds fans were not happy.
They believed that the club did not do their best to bring in marquee names they were linked with, including Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz.
Leeds rather spent £18 million on Noah Okafor, while signing Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha on free transfers.
These three players showed up big time for the club this past season, with Calvert-Lewin leading the pack with 15 goals. He was heavily criticized when he arrived, but turned out to be a very good singing by the 49ers.
