Leeds handed transfer boost after club cut ‘communication’ over South American wonderkid

Milton Delgado

After ending their first season back in the Premier League with a 14th-place finish, Leeds United have now shifted their attention towards the summer transfer window.

Chairman Paraag Marathe has already stressed that the club will need to work within the Premier League’s new Squad Cost Ratio regulations when planning their transfer business this summer.

Even so, Leeds are still determined to strengthen several areas of the squad and bring in better quality, while making sure they stay compliant with the league’s financial rules.

The Whites remain committed to adding to their midfield options, and while they are looking at experienced players in Europe, the club also have their eyes on a wonderkid from South America.

Leeds United receive a major boost in the pursuit of Milton Delgado

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder has been earning rave reviews from scouts flocking to watch him this season, and he is expected to cross the Atlantic this summer.

Leeds United have been closely tracking the young midfielder and are considering making a move to sign him in the upcoming transfer window.

However, they are not the only European club chasing him. Everton, Sunderland and Crystal Palace have their eyes on him, and Trabzonspor have pushed hard to sign the youngster.

The Turkish giants have already failed with a bid worth up to £6m for the Boca Juniors midfielder this summer.

According to Turkish daily Takvim (via A Spor), following their failed bid for Delgado, the Trabzonspor officials have cut all communications with their Boca Juniors counterpart and have not returned with a fresh approach.

Trabzonspor appear to be giving up on signing Delgado this summer, paving the way for his Premier League suitors to have a clear run at him.

It remains to be seen whether Leeds firm up ther interest and make an offer to tempt Boca Juniors into selling the young midfielder this summer.

He is the kind of signing the 49ers would want

Leeds are keen to bring in upgrades to the squad, but the 49ers are also pushing to bring in more young players with a high ceiling.

The club cannot afford to pay the premium fees required for top talent, but the hierarchy want to bring in young players whose prices have not soared yet.

Delgado is seen as such a potential, and the kind of signing Leeds would want to bring in, apart from the experienced players they are looking at.

The defensive midfielder featured in 22 matches this year, more than anyone else in the squad, underlining just how important he has become to the Boca Juniors team.

Leeds have enough midfield options to allow him the time to properly bed in and adapt to the intensity of the Premier League, without the need to get rushed into the line-up.
