Leeds United have already completed the sale of Pascal Struijk this summer, but they are expected to sanction a few more departures before the transfer window closes.
Ideally, the club would have kept hold of the Dutch defender, but once it became clear he was not prepared to sign a new contract, Leeds opted to sell him before the end of June to strengthen their financial position.
Attention has now turned to other members of the squad. Leeds are looking to move on several players who do not feature in Daniel Farke’s long-term plans and are unlikely to play a significant role in the Premier League next season.
Joe Gelhardt is almost certain to leave after playing a starring role in Hull City’s promotion campaign. However, the Tigers are yet to make an offer for the attacker.
Hull City to delay move for Joe Gelhardt
Joe Gelhardt had a brilliant season on loan at Hull City and played a starring role in earning promotion to the Premier League for the Tigers.
Hull are interested in signing the forward this summer, and the Leeds attacker is also keen for a permanent switch to the MKM Stadium.
Leeds have also been keen to assess the market before selling the forward, as they are aware they could get a good fee from his departure this summer.
And according to Hull journalist Kurt Johansson, Hull are also set to delay a move to sign the Leeds forward in the ongoing transfer window.
The Tigers have a big budget to improve their squad following promotion, and are more or less looking at a squad overhaul this summer.
Gelhardt is a player they still want, but they want to wait until later in the window to sign the forward.
The newly promoted side have already strengthened by signing former Leeds goalkeeper Jack Butland from Rangers and are continuing to assess several other potential additions.
They are keen to get Gelhardt back, but are prepared to wait as they are acutely aware that he has no future at Leeds under Daniel Farke.
He deserves his future to be clarified soon
Joe Gelhardt has arguably enjoyed the best spell of his senior career since joining Hull City, and the forward has made no secret of his desire to turn the move into a permanent one.
The 24-year-old no longer looks to have a place in Daniel Farke’s plans at Leeds United after struggling for regular first-team opportunities before heading out on loan.
With Gelhardt playing an important role at Hull and the Tigers now in a stronger financial position following promotion, Leeds are well within their rights to hold out for a respectable transfer fee if they decide to cash in.
That said, there is plenty to be gained from getting a deal over the line sooner rather than later. An early agreement would remove any uncertainty, allowing Gelhardt to settle his future and concentrate fully on preparing for the Premier League season with Hull.
To be fair to Joe Gelhardt, and yet be fair to the club, they should place a £5/6m fee in place for his immediate transfer. For Hull City, he must be worth that fee from their new found wealth.
Add the cash to funding Pascal’s replacement.
I would honestly get him in for pre-season training and see how he responds. The money we will get for him is relative peanuts. His performance in the EFL last season was excellent. Might be worth keeping him.
Why?
