After securing a 14th-place finish in the Premier League, Leeds United are now focused on taking the next step and strengthening the squad ahead of the new season.

Chairman Paraag Marathe has already made it clear that the club intend to be ambitious in the transfer market, but without compromising their long-term financial stability. Leeds are determined to operate within the Premier League’s new financial regulations while continuing to improve the team.

For Daniel Farke, adding quality in several positions is a priority, with greater creativity and attacking flair among the key areas he wants to address during the summer window.

Leeds are already looking at Premier League-proven attacking midfield talents. However, the 49ers are also eyeing young talent, and they have their sights set on the French market.

Anto Sekongo is a ‘serious option’ for Leeds United

Leeds have their eyes on Ligue 2 side Dunkerque’s midfielder Anto Sekongo ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old midfielder has impressed scouts, and several clubs in Europe are also interested in the young talent ahead of the summer.

Newly promoted Premier League side Hull City are also keen to sign Sekongo, but Leeds are claimed to be ramping up their interest in the young midfielder.

According to journalist Sebastien Vidal, Leeds’ interest in Sekongo is not a fleeting one, and they are now considering taking him to Elland Road.

It has been claimed that the young Malian has emerged as a ‘serious option’ for Leeds ahead of the summer transfer window.

The club ramped up their scouting on the youngster last season and are now considering making an offer for him in the coming days and weeks.

There are also suggestions that a decision on Sekongo’s future is imminent, and Dunkergue could finalise their plan to cash in on the young midfielder this summer.

Leeds need to be smart in the market

Leeds are likely to have more money to spend this summer than last year. However, the club have already indicated that they won’t go crazy in the market.

The club are still not an established entity in the Premier League, and will have to be more deliberate and smarter in picking up players in the transfer window without blowing up their budget.

Sekongo is the kind of player Leeds could sign from France for a relatively low transfer fee and hope to increase his value over the next few years.

Leeds are also looking to bring in more experienced midfield reinforcements, which means they can afford to take more time to allow Sekongo to settle down and bed into the team.
