Leeds United lost their first game since September on Wednesday night.
The Whites lost away from home as their nine game unbeaten run came to an end. Japhet Tanganga scored the only goal of the game in the first half.
Leeds tried to get back into the game but it was too late. Daniel Farke on the other hand, believes his side were just very unlucky on Wednesday night.
Leeds United star flops against Millwall
Joel Piroe was one of Leeds’ best players last season. The striker scored 13 goals in the league, but the Whites eventually missed out on promotion. His partnership with Georginio Rutter up top was one of the best things of last season.
On Wednesday night, Piroe was anonymous as Leeds lost to Millwall. The striker failed to complete a dribble, and one just one duel during the game. An excerpt from LeedsLive player ratings says Piroe was “non-existent”:
“Some neat flicks in tight spaces when he dropped deep, but a virtually non-existent threat inside the Millwall box”
The striker has been on a low scoring spell, having netted just two goals in his last seven appearances.
Leeds’ loss to Millwall means the whites have dropped four points behind league leaders Sunderland.
Will Daniel Farke drop Piroe?
Joel Piroe is currently the clubs top scorer with five goals. He has also featured in all of the 14 league games this season.
Daniel Farke is also a big fan of the striker, saying the Dutchman deserves more respect for his performances this year:
“It’s not an individual stat. Joel deserves more praise. Does so much for us. With finishing, there is nobody better than him. If you want to play for a big club like Leeds, 46 games and two cups, you cannot play every minute. He is motivated to do this.
Some other skills are needed. I pick the team for what we need at the time. His finish against Hull was like today. Ice cold. What I love is it is never about him. Never moaning about his minutes. Always looking to offer something to the team. Special character.”
The alternatives to Piroe are Patrick Bamford, Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt. Bamford is almost always injured, and recently returned to the team.
Gelhardt and Joseph are young and can’t be fully trusted to play all 46 games this season.
