Leeds United showed grit and determination to earn a point against Brentford on Sunday, but the game didn’t end without it’s fair share of controversy.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored in the 79th minute to rescue a point for Leeds at Elland Road after the home side were completely outplayed by Brentford in the first half.
Daniel Farke made a few changes after the break, and Leeds fought their way back into the game to ensure that their first home game of the season didn’t end in a defeat.
However, the match officials came under scrutiny at the end of the game for a big decision that went in Leeds’ favour that could have changed the result.

Alan Pardew slams VAR after Leeds vs Brentford incident
The incident in question is Jayden Bogle’s perceived foul on Kevin Schade towards the end of the game that could have been a penalty on another day.
Bogle caught Schade without getting the ball, and there were arguments that it was a foul inside the box, which should have resulted in a penalty.
Referee Tony Harrington felt that there was not enough for a penalty, and since it was not a clear and obvious error, VAR didn’t intervene to change the decision.
Sky Sports presenter Don Goodman insisted after the game that if Harrington had blown for a penalty, VAR would not have overturned the decision.
However, Alan Pardew has insisted that it was a definite penalty and indicated that VAR should have stepped in to convince the referee to blow his whistle in favour of Brentford
He said on talkSPORT: “It was a definite penalty, and then you have got VAR.”

Leeds would not care
Daniel Farke’s side have had their fair share of issues with referees since last season, and could have finished higher in the table had a few decisions gone their way.
Schade tried to earn that penalty with his theatrics, which may have played a role in Harrington deciding against giving a penalty.
A point was a fair result as Leeds dug deep in the second half and ensured they walked away with something in the bag.
