Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has several decisions to make this summer, but it seems one player is now almost certain to move on from Elland Road.
The focus has firmly shifted to the summer transfer window and how Leeds can improve the squad that finished 14th in their first season back in the Premier League.
Leeds are looking to bring in ‘difference makers’ in several areas of their squad to improve the team. However, the club also need player sales and departures as part of refreshing the squad.
Players such as Pascal Struijk, Wilfried Gnonto and Lucas Perri have been linked with departures. However, the club have made up their mind about selling one particular player.
No way back from Max Wober at Leeds United
Max Wober was not part of Daniel Farke’s plans last season, and the Austrian defender was allowed to join Werder Bremen on loan last summer.
The Austrian endured a horrible season in Germany, riddled with injuries, and barely played any football in the entire campaign.
He did nothing at Werder Bremen to convince Leeds that he deserves another crack at Elland Road, with just a year left on his contract with Leeds.
Beren Cross wrote on The Athletic while auditing the Leeds squad: “As much as Leeds are keen to increase their defensive options, Wober looks highly unlikely to be one of their solutions.
“The Austrian endured a torrid time with injury on loan at Werder Bremen last season and failed to produce anything that convinces United they should give him another go.”
It is clear he has no way back at Leeds, and his agents will have to find a new club for him to join as he seems done at Elland Road.
His departure is likely to be complicated
With just one year remaining on his contract, Leeds would ideally like to cash in this summer and secure a transfer fee rather than risk losing him for nothing further down the line.
Forget recouping the fee paid for him, Leeds would be lucky to get anything for Wober, given his terrible run of injuries last season.
Werder Bremen have shown no inclination to re-sign a player who barely got on the pitch for them in the recently concluded campaign.
Wober needs a fresh start in his career away from Leeds this summer.
