Leeds United are pushing to add to their forward line this summer to ensure they have more goals in their squad after finishing 14th in the Premier League.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin defied expectations in his first season for Leeds, scoring 14 Premier League goals and being the talisman up front for the Whites.
However, Leeds lacked a proper back-up for the former Everton striker and struggled to score goals when the experienced number 9 suffered a dip in form midway through the campaign.
Daniel Farke is determined to learn from that and wants to expand his forward options as he looks to upgrade the squad after securing Premier League survival last season.
Leeds United push to sign Barcelona’s Roony Bardghji
Roony Bardghji moved to Barcelona from FC Copenhagen last summer. However, the club’s incredible attacking options mean he just played 633 minutes in their La Liga-winning campaign.
According to TeamTalk, Leeds are long-term admirers of the Swede and have been tracking his progress since his days at FC Copenhagen.
It has been claimed that the Whites believe that Bardghji is a talented enough player to add creativity, goals and flair to their current squad ahead of next season.
Barcelona are also prepared to cash in on the 20-year-old forward and recoup their outlay, with little expectation that he will see significant game time next season.
However, it has been claimed that the young Swedish forward is more interested in a loan move where he can play regular first-team football.
Leeds are ‘well-positioned’ to sign the forward, but competition for his signature is growing as several other clubs are keen to sign him as well.
Aston Villa, Sunderland, Brighton, Brentford and Everton are among the Premier League clubs that also hold an interest in the young Barcelona attacker.
A loan may work for Leeds
Barcelona are keen to sell him as they don’t see a long-term future for Roony Bardghji. However, the 20-year-old does not want to give up on his Blaugrana dream just yet.
A loan deal may work for Leeds as well. They won’t have to pay a fee for a forward who is still young and has yet to prove himself at the top level.
Leeds also need to be careful not to bring in a young forward who could hinder Harry Gray‘s pathway into the first team over the next few years.
He will likely leave Leeds on loan, but with his contract expiring in 2028, it’s vital for the club that the 17-year-old sees a path to the first team in the next couple of years.
It remains to be seen whether Bardghji would be convinced to join Leeds, where he will be competing with Calvert-Lewin for a place in the team.
