Leeds United began major work on the Elland Road expansion project after the end of the season. This is all part of the grand plan of the 49ers to increase the status of the club.

Leeds are gearing towards a bright future, with a long term goal of becoming consistent in the Premier League.

Since the 49ers took over, bringing in cash flow to the club has been their priority. They began with partnerships with brands, and getting global sponsors behind the club.

Expanding Elland Road is to increase the capacity of the stadium, turning it into a UEFA Category 4 stadium

They also hope to capitalize on the growing fanbase and demand for tickets by adding a few more seats. This will bring in serious matchday revenue when the project is completed.

Leeds United fans get major Elland Road update

Serious work is already being done around Leeds United’s home ground in the last month.

Adam Pope and the hosts of the Don’t Go To Bed Yet podcast have been discussing some of the work going on around the grounds.

“The Norman Hunter Suite has been smashed apart now,” Pope said.

“The one thing I would be really interested to see is if they uncover any artefacts as they go along.

“The whole stand actually burned down in the 1950s before being rebuilt, so I reckon they will find all sorts once they get going.”

Pope then said that fans should not expect most of the work to be completed before pre-season.

“But if people are expecting them to have completed the demolition process by the time pre-season gets going, it is worth reminding them that it won’t be the case. Games will still continue in the normal way, but they are having to go up and over the top [of the existing structure].”

Will this affect the team during the season?

Many fans might wonder if work will continue into the season, as there is much to do in so little time.

But it has been made clear that work will only take place in the off-season, or during international breaks. There will be no work done when the season begins later this year.

The West Stand project is set to be completed around late 2028. When completed, the stand will stretch far back into the car park behind.

The current timeline for the entire Elland Road expansion is set for 2030.
