Leeds United moved up to 13th in the Premier League table following their 1-0 win over Brighton at Elland Road on Sunday.
The Whites capped off their final home game of the season with a dramatic win after Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored deep in stoppage time to trigger wild celebrations at Elland Road.
Leeds have exceeded expectations with their performances in the Premier League this season, and after being tipped by many as favourites for relegation, the Whites could still finish as high as 11th on the final day of the campaign.
And in the process, Leeds could end up embarrassing their former chief executive, Angus Kinnear and his decision to join Everton the previous year.
The Everton CEO is set for a reality check from Leeds
Angus Kinnear left Leeds to join Everton after the Toffees got new owners, who pushed to bring in the experienced chief executive on board.
He also took a few of his lieutenants from Leeds to Everton, and there was a feeling that Kinnear was taking the next step in his football executive career.
However, Leeds could end up finishing higher in the Premier League table than Everton on the final day of the season.
If the Whites beat West Ham at the London Stadium and Everton lose against Tottenham, Leeds will overtake the Whites in the Premier League standings.
It would be a major embarrassment for Kinnear, who thought he was moving to bigger and better things when he left Leeds for Everton.
He was well-liked at Leeds and played a key role in several big decisions, including the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa in 2018, and the appointment of Daniel Farke in 2023.
He messed up another decision that helped the Whites
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored 14 goals in the Premier League this season after he joined Leeds on a free transfer last summer.
Everton opted against offering him a new contract at the end of last season, and Kinnear played a big role in that decision following Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems.
However, the Leeds striker has proved Everton wrong by keeping himself fit and scoring the goals that could end up powering a newly-promoted side to 11th.
Calvert-Lewin has scored five more goals than Beto and six more than Thierno Barry – the two strikers Everton banked on this season.
The Whites also beat the Toffees at home this season while earning a draw on Merseyside in January.
