Leeds United hammered Oxford United 4-0 with Daniel James, Jayden Bogle, Brenden Aaronson and Manor Solomon getting on the scoresheet at Elland Road on Saturday. The win continued their imperious home form this season where they have won 10 of their 12 games on their turf. Their dominance at home this season is unmatched in the Championship and it is one of the best home records in Europe at the moment.
The home record is more or less powering Leeds’ charge for automatic promotion at the moment as they have only won three times on the road this season.
The poor record away from home is not biting Leeds as at home they have been nothing short of imperious. Their only defeat at Elland Road was against Burnley earlier in the season.
Leeds’ home record is such that despite their poor form away from home, they are comfortably placed second in the league table and are one of the favourites for automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.
Three of their next four games are away from home and while Leeds need to fix their record on the road, they will be keen to ensure that their performances at Elland Road do not drop off.
Leeds are a scary proposition at Elland Road, scoring 29 times and conceding just six goals in 12 games and any team getting a result against them in West Yorkshire would be seen as an outlier.
The numbers behind the Leeds United home record are staggering
Leeds’ home record is comparable with the best teams in Europe at the moment and the underlying statistics of their performances are even more startling.
The Whites have scored the most number of goals in the Championship this season with 41 strikes. However, staggeringly, they are slightly underperforming their xG at this stage of the campaign.
They have an xG of 43.6, which is the highest in the Championship and five more expected goals than Middlesbrough whose xG is 38.3.
It is no surprise that they have scored so many goals this season as they have had the most number of shots as well with 367 attempts. Middlesbrough, who are just behind Leeds, have had 34 fewer shots than the Whites.
They are also having more shots on target per game than any other team in the league but it is not just in attack that Leeds are excelling this season.
Leeds have also conceded the least number of shots per game at 6.6, which is more than two shots less than the next-best team in the Championship.
Leeds are outperforming the best of Europe at the moment
Leeds are not only the best team in the Championship at home, but they are also outgunning some of the biggest clubs in Europe when it comes to their home form.
Clubs such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain’s home records are comparable, if not a tad less impressive than Leeds United this season.
Leeds are making a habit out of looking comfortable and sorted at Elland Road this season and a strong home form is one of the harbingers of promotion.
Daniel Farke hopes to keep his players grounded and ensure that they do not look too far into the future as the scars of last season’s playoff heartbreak are still fresh.
The Leeds boss will also hope that his team will improve their record away from home as they can’t be this bad on the road and hope to get automatically promoted.
However, at home, Leeds have little to worry about and as they showed in the last game of the year at Elland Road on Saturday, they can be breathtaking on their turf.
Leeds hope that by the time they host Blackburn Rovers on New Year’s Day in the first home game of 2025, they will have improved their away record with two wins at Stoke City and Derby County respectively.
