“I expect him to say that to me…” – Simon Jordan slams Daniel Farke for going public with comments

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has defied expectations by keeping the team in the Premier League in their first season back in the top flight.

Farke’s side were one of the favourites to go down at the start of the season due to the horrendous record of promoted teams in the Premier League in recent years.

The Leeds manager’s poor record in the top flight also didn’t help to change the narrative. However, the Whites secured survival with games to spare, and they could end up deciding who goes down on the final day.

Farke also outlined his ambitions for Leeds last week and insisted that if the club want to maintain the status quo, he is not the right man to remain in charge.

Farke has challenged the Leeds board to match his ambition and back him in the upcoming summer window to take the squad to the next level.

However, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes that the Leeds manager should be having this conversation in private with the owners.

He stressed that he would have had no problem if he were the Leeds owner and Farke was honest with him about his ambition and vision for the team, but in private.

Jordan said on talkSPORT: “I think this is a conversation he needs to have with the owners.

“[If I were the Leeds owner] I would expect him to say that to me.

“I would have no problem with him saying it to me in no uncertain terms that I have proved the point, I have taken you out of the division, and I have achieved this.

“I can achieve more. I want to work for this football club. I can see the scale of opportunity, but I am also ambitious, and I want you to back me.”

The Leeds manager knows he is in a strong position

Although some Leeds supporters still had doubts about Daniel Farke last year, he has completely changed the mood around him this season by guiding the club to Premier League survival.

The German manager turned things around during a tough spell in October and November, adjusting the system and finding an approach that got the best out of his players.

Since then, Leeds have become one of the hardest teams to beat in the league, suffering only four defeats in their last 24 Premier League matches.

If Farke were to leave Elland Road this summer, it would be a huge setback for the 49ers both on the pitch and in terms of supporter reaction.

The owners now need to show the same ambition their manager has displayed, convince him to commit his future to the club and back him strongly in the transfer market so Leeds can keep moving forward next season.
