Leeds United rightfully earned their return to the top flight after an amazing campaign in the Championship last season. Everyone knew it was going to be difficult to survive this year.

Pundits tipped the Whites to be relegated, and Daniel Farke to be sacked early in the season. But against all odds, Farke and this team have worked hard and managed to avoid relegation.

Leeds went on a great run after the last international break to clinch safety. This weekend, they will face West Ham in their final league game this season.

Now the club can look forward into the future, as the ownership have multiple plans on and off the pitch.

Leeds United chief sparks rumours with latest comments

Leeds United director Peter Lowey sat down and spoke about the club’s future, including the finances and plans in development. However, his comment about Daniel Farke raised a few eyebrows.

“Football’s an integrated business, it’s not just Daniel on the football pitch,” he told The Athletic.

“When we bought it, we set goals, we set targets and as Daniel rightly said, we have met all our targets in football.

“We have met all our targets in the finance. We got rid of the £200million-plus player debt, players we didn’t have.

“We refinanced the thing, our revenue was up substantially. Then, from the development side, we got the approval and started building (Elland Road’s redevelopment).

“If you look at the business, Daniel is an executive in one section, (there are other sections and) they’ve all met their goals. Where Daniel is right, is we need to sit down, which we will do now, and set a new set of goals.”

49ers must do the right thing

Daniel Farke has done more than enough for Leeds United; leading them to promotion and keeping them up in the Premier League on his first attempt.

Much was said when the Whites were set to play in the top flight, with many tipping them to go straight back down. But Farke has managed to squeeze something out of this group of players.

Him showing his passion and ambition for the team by asking for reinforcements from the board is never a bad thing.

So in the next few months, the 49ers need to do the right thing and renew his contract. They also need to spend well and get him quality options in the transfer market as well.
