This week saw news emerge that the Premier League have won their case against Manchester City. The club are believed to have been found guilty of ‘virtually all charges’.
City had 115 charges including financial irregularities and non-compliance during investigations.
There has yet to be an official statement from the Premier League or Manchester City. However, sources around the league are confident that a verdict has been given and will be out soon.
An independent is believed to have made their ruling after the charges were issued in 2023.
City are expected to appeal the verdict if and when it emerges, with no current timeline on the whole situation. The Manchester club insist the process is ongoing.

If and when the decision is made public, the sanctions will follow.
There is no word on the extent of the punishment but there will no doubt be severe consequences. Sanctions range from point deductions and heavy fines to Premier League expulsion.
The aftermath of the case is what many Premier League clubs, possibly including Leeds United, are following.
Clubs may seek compensation, with the claim that they have been impacted by Manchester City’s actions. Reports have suggested that clubs have started seeking advice as to if they have a case for financial compensation.
Earlier this year, Burnley took Everton to court after the Toffees were sanctioned for breaching profit and sustainability regulations (PSR).
Everton have since been told that they must pay £35 million to the Clarets. Burnley successfully argued that the breach impacted their chances of staying in the league, and sought compensation for the losses they incurred being relegated.

There is one major problem
If and when the sanctions are applied after the verdict, it opens the door for clubs to seek compensation.
There is however one major problem when it comes to Leeds United. While other clubs who have been consistent in the league over the past decade could argue that City’s actions impacted them, it will be difficult for Leeds.
The Whites were only in the league after the period that Manchester City have been sanctioned for, from 2009 to 2018.
Leeds were promoted after 2018, which means that they would have to go to incredible lengths to prove that City’s actions affected them. As of now, it looks very unlikely but only the future can tell.
