Leeds United are in the market for a striker this summer as they seek to improve their forward line and add more goals to their squad ahead of the new season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was the club’s talisman up front in the 2025/26 campaign. However, he received little to no support from any of the other strikers in the squad last season.

Lukas Nmecha was never going to be a prolific forward and was largely Calvert-Lewin’s understudy, and Joel Piroe was relegated to being third or fourth choice striker in the squad.

Piroe is likely to move on from Leeds, and the club may have a chance to hijack an agreement for a striker they have been tracking for months ahead of the summer.

Leeds United can still sign Haris Tabakovic

Haris Tabakovic spent last season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, Daniel Farke’s former club, where he enjoyed an impressive campaign.

The striker scored 15 goals in all competitions during his time at Gladbach, but the Bundesliga side were unable to activate the £4.2m option to make the move permanent. As a result, he has returned to Hoffenheim.

The 32-year-old striker is one of the names Leeds are tracking and have been keen to take to Elland Road in the ongoing summer transfer window

However, according to Sky Deutschland, Red Bull Salzburg have reached an agreement over a deal worth more than £4m to sign the striker ahead of the new season.

An agreement between the two clubs is in place. However, Leeds are still in with a chance to sign Tabakovic this summer.

The striker is yet to agree personal terms on a contract with the Austrian giants, and his future remains very much open.

With other clubs interested, the Bosnian may not be in a hurry to agree on a contract with Salzburg and commit his future.

A big market opportunity for Leeds

Leeds are in desperate need of an alternative goalscoring outlet to Calvert-Lewin next season, and are in the market for a striker this summer.

However, forwards cost big money, and it is unclear whether Leeds can stretch their budget to bring in a big-name striker with guaranteed goalscoring pedigree this summer.

Harry Wilson will sign for Leeds in the coming days, and he will be one more goalscoring outlet for the team next season. However, a striker is still needed.

At a reported fee of just over £4m, Tabakovic could represent a shrewd signing for Leeds, given his experience and goalscoring pedigree.

The transfer would also have little impact on the club’s overall budget, leaving room to strengthen in other areas of the squad.

Farke has regularly turned to the German market in recent transfer windows and will know exactly what Tabakovic can bring after following his performances in the Bundesliga.
