Manchester United manager Michael Carrick didn’t enjoy watching his side lose 2-1 to Leeds United at Old Trafford in a historic result.

It was Leeds’ first league win at the ground in over 45 years, and it could prove to be a crucial moment in their fight for Premier League survival.

Noah Okafor made the difference, scoring twice in a dominant first-half showing where Leeds created plenty of chances they might feel they should have finished.

The Old Trafford faithful were not happy with the home side’s first-half performance, and there were audible sounds of jeers. However, Michael Carrick has given a completely different version of events.

Michael Carrick left angry at suggestions of Manchester United getting booed at half-time

Manchester United remain third in the Premier League table, and are still firm favourites to qualify for the Champions League by the end of the season.

However, the defeat to Leeds was bruising, given its historic significance, and Carrick was definitely in a bad mood following the final whistle.

The Manchester United manager slammed the referee for two bad decisions involving his players, which turned the tide in Leeds’ favour.

However, Carrick was even angrier when suggested that his team were booed off and provided a completely different version of the events at half-time.

Carrick fired back at the suggestion of getting booed off by the fans and told talkSPORT: “We didn’t get booed off at halftime.

“The boos rang at the whistle, and we got cheered and clapped off when we got to the tunnel.”

Regardless, Carrick has become the first Manchester United manager since Dave Sexton to lose a league game to Leeds at Old Trafford.

Leeds deserved their luck

Leeds may have finally had a few decisions go their way at Old Trafford, but it shouldn’t take away from the fact that they were the better side on the night.

Even Dominic Calvert-Lewin admitted he wasn’t sure Lisandro Martinez meant to pull his hair, despite it leading to a red card.

There was also an elbow on Yoro that could have been given as a foul on another day, but Leeds had already taken control of the game by then.

Given some of the calls that have gone against them this season, Leeds fans will feel they were due a bit of fortune, but their performance more than justified the result.

And as for Manchester United, they’re hardly in a position to complain about refereeing decisions at Old Trafford.
