Harry Gray spent last season on loan at Rotherham United, enduring a difficult campaign as the club slipped out of League One and into the fourth tier.

Despite the team’s struggles, the 17-year-old striker was one of the few bright spots. He showed flashes of the ability that has convinced many at Leeds United that he has a big future at Elland Road.

Even so, Daniel Farke believes another season of regular first-team football will benefit Gray more than a place in the Premier League squad. As a result, the youngster is expected to head out on loan again this summer.

Gray will report back for Leeds’ pre-season and have the chance to impress, but the current plan is for him to spend next season elsewhere. Two League One clubs are leading the race to secure his signature on loan.

Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town want Harry Gray on loan

Harry Gray is not part of Daniel Farke’s plans in the Premier League next season, and the club are preparing to loan him out again this summer.

Sheffield United have shown an interest in signing the young striker on loan, with Chris Wilder keen to reunite him with Patrick Bamford at Bramall Lane

However, he could again be on his way to League One this season after spending last year at Rotherham United.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town are leading the race to sign the 17-year-old Leeds striker on loan.

Wednesday suffered relegation from the Championship last season and wants Gray to be part of a squad that should be pushing for promotion next season.

Huddersfield finished ninth in League One and are expected to be in the mix for a top six spot in the 2026/27 season.

Leeds would want guarantees over playing time before picking the next loan club for Gray in the coming weeks.

He looked a class apart in League One for Rotherham last season and is now attracting interest from two clubs who are likely to be in the mix for promotion.

Is this the right move?

Gray looked very good for a poor League One side last season, and there was an expectation that Leeds would want him to play at a higher level.

Sheffield United’s interest suggested that he could be playing for one of the top Championship sides, but it seems a League One move is still the favoured option.

Leeds seem keen for him to spend next season at a League One club with promotion ambitions and a positive, attacking style of play.

Leeds may not feel that he is going to get the game time required at a club such as Sheffield United, who will be under pressure to get promoted from the Championship next season under Chris Wilder.
