Leeds United fans cannot escape the dream of Marcelo Bielsa returning to Elland Road. However, it could now become a real possibility as he is now on the brink in Uruguay.
Uruguay’s 5-1 defeat against the United States in the last international break exposed the internal divisions within the squad and the unpopularity of Bielsa among the players.
The relationship between the players and the head broke down. However, the Uruguayan officials convinced him last week to continue until next summer’s World Cup.
However, in the last 48 hours, some of the top Uruguayan stars have staged an open mutiny against Bielsa, and have made it clear to their FA that they will not play for the national team as long as Bielsa is in charge.
Uruguay are set to finalise the fate of Marcelo Bielsa as Leeds fans watch on
Uruguayan officials were involved in high-level meetings on Tuesday to diffuse the situation and finalise their decision on whether to continue with Bielsa.
It appears they are still not prepared to sack the 70-year-old, and according to Uruguayan journalist Buysan, officials will meet Bielsa again today.

Uruguayan national team sporting director Jorge Giordano provided his report to the FA on Tuesday, and he is still in favour of keeping Bielsa.
Uruguay were impressive in the World Cup qualifiers and were one of the first teams to qualify. There is little doubt about the coaching credentials of Bielsa.
The officials feel it is all about Bielsa finding a way to repair his relationship with the squad again, as they are certain the players still believe in his quality.
The Uruguayan FA are keen to ensure players don’t influence the coach’s future and are moving to ease tensions and restore harmony within the camp.
Leeds fans are still hoping for a reunion
Bielsa’s cult hero status at Leeds means the supporters are keeping close tabs on what is set to happen in Uruguay over the next few days.
The relationship between the head coach and the players seems irreparable at the moment, and Uruguay could be forced to let him go soon.

If Bielsa becomes available, he will immediately be viewed as the leading candidate for the Leeds role, irrespective of his appetite for a return or the 49ers’ stance on rehiring him.
The Argentinian got Leeds back to the Premier League after 16 years, and they played some of the most scintillating football that even won over neutrals.
With Daniel Farke’s stock rapidly falling, and Leeds expected to be in the market for a new manager soon, the stars seem to be aligning for a Bielsa comeback to Elland Road.
Whether the 49ers want to go towards that direction remains to be seen. However, it probably would be the easiest PR win for them at the moment.
