Leeds United moved up to 13th in the Premier League table following their dramatic 1-0 win over Brighton at Elland Road on Sunday.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his 14th Premier League goal of the season, deep in stoppage time, to earn all three points for Leeds in their final home game of the season.
Anton Stach’s injury in the middle of the second half soured the mood at Elland Road. However, the late winner ensured the fans left the stadium with smiles on their faces.
However, West Ham were beaten at Newcastle United, and they will now be desperate to beat Leeds when they face each other at the London Stadium on the final day of the season.
Alan Pardew backs West Ham to beat Leeds
West Ham now need Chelsea to beat Tottenham at Stamford Bridge this week to allow them to have a chance of survival on the final day of the season.
Alan Pardew insisted that Leeds are winnable game for the Hammers, who he felt never had a chance of getting a result at Newcastle on Sunday.
He expects Chelsea to beat Spurs, which would put West Ham in with a chance of survival on the final day of the season.
The former West Ham boss wants the Hammers to play the team that finished the game at Newcastle and ensure they have a proper go at the Whites next weekend.
Pardew said on talkSPORT: “[Leeds are] a winnable game.
“I didn’t expect them to win at Newcastle United. As well as they have been performing, it was a stretch for them to get something there.
“They have gifted goals away, but they gave a decent account of themselves after they went 4-4-2.
“That might be the team that plays against Leeds.
“He has got to leave Castellanos on the pitch, and they have got to give Leeds a right good going.
“Tottenham will go to Chelsea, and I don’t think you are going to win there, and it will go down to the last day of the season.
“I don’t think it’s done for West Ham just yet.”
The Whites can finish 11th and relegate the Hammers
The win at Elland Road moved Leeds up to 13th in the Premier League with one game still left to play, and there is still a chance they could finish even higher.
West Ham will head into the final day still battling to stay up, meaning Leeds could have a huge say in whether the Hammers survive when the two sides meet in London.
If other results go their way, another victory could even lift the Whites as high as 11th in the table.
Few would have expected Leeds to be pushing for a place just outside the top half after returning to the Premier League last season.
