The Pemier League has found Manchester City guilty of multiple charges related to financial cheating. This has put many clubs, including Leeds United on high alert.

The verdict from an Independent panel deems that the Manchester club inflated sponsorships to boost their revenue.

And as a result of that the English club had almost unlimited resources to buy players, which helped them lift man domestic trophies over the last decade. City have been found guilty for charges from 2008 to 2018.

Before sanctions can be applied, the panel will have to hear an appeal.

City have filed their appeal as of the last 12 hours, and there will be a hearing to determine what happens next.

Almost everyone in and around English football has given their opinion on the guilty verdict. Most have criticized Manchester City and condemned the stain they have brought to English football.

Ethan Ampadu was asked about the whole situation when he was on duty with Wales.

He replied: “Everyone has talked about it.

“Don’t think I have an opinion on it, to be honest. It’s something that will be sorted elsewhere, and I am not sure when.

“We will wait and see, but yes, everyone has talked about it.”

Ampadu seems to be the only Leeds United player to have publicly spoken about the whole situation. Neither the club or the ownership have released any statement concerning the matter.

Will Leeds get any compensation if the sanctions are applied?

The fallout from the verdict could be even more long and complicated than the initial investigation.

If the appeal does not hold for City, there are a range of punishments that could be applied. That includes point deductions, fines and even being kicked out of the league.

Clubs will be able to sue Manchester City for compensation, but on one condition.

Teams that can prove that City’s financial cheating directly impacted them competitively. So clubs that lost out on European places or got relegated between 2008 and 2018 could sue.

Leeds United and Everton reached a confidential out-of-court settlement regarding after the Toffees were found to have breached 2021/22 Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

But as things stand, it is unlikely the Whites can sue for compensation because they were not in the league during that period.
